The new minister of MNDM did not disappoint municipal leaders gathered in the city for the annual Thunder Bay District Municipal League fall meeting. Minister of Northern Development and Mines, Michael Gravelle confirmed he would be setting up a satellite office for his ministry here in the city.

Gravelle who was greeted with a standing ovation, reaffirmed his commitment to fight for the region as he made the announcement that many have been waiting for.

Mr. Gravelle also reaffirmed his commitment to a cause he has championed for years, the improvement of Highway 11/17 saying he will work to see that Northwestern Ontario gets a larger portion of provincial funds allocated to highway upgrades for Northern Ontario.

Gravelle was one of a number of speakers at the municipal league meetings. President Gwen Garbutt says that of all the issues the league will deal with, one stands above the others, the need for the province to upload costs from municipalities. The session ends Saturday."
